PLEASE NOTE:
Leaking from the bottom tip is a common issue with inverted glass feeders like this one. Since it relies on a vacuum seal and surface tension to keep the nectar in, even small changes can cause a "drip-drip-drip" situation.
🌸 Hummingbird Feeder Care & Leak Prevention
To ensure your feeder works perfectly and stays drip-free, follow these simple setup tips:
Avoid the "Sun-Drip": Try to hang your feeder in a shaded or semi-shaded area. Direct sunlight heats the air inside the bottle, causing it to expand and push nectar out of the bottom.
The Room-Temp Rule: Always fill your feeder with room-temperature nectar. Cold liquid in a warm bottle can disrupt the vacuum seal that holds the nectar in place.
Check the Seal: Before hanging, ensure the stopper is pushed in firmly and that the neck of the bottle is free of any dried sugar or debris that might let air sneak in.
Keep it Topped Off: Feeders are less likely to leak when they are at least half-full. A larger air pocket at the top is more sensitive to pressure changes.
The Initial Drip: It is perfectly normal for the feeder to drip 2-3 times immediately after hanging. This is just the vacuum seal stabilizing!
A Quick Nectar Recipe
For the healthiest birds, we recommend a simple 4:1 ratio:
4 parts water to 1 part white granulated sugar.
Boil the water, stir in the sugar until dissolved, and let it cool completely before filling.
Note: Please avoid red dyes, as they can be harmful to hummingbirds!
